Films about apartheid in South Africa are aplenty, but Netflix's Silverton Siege is among my favorites.
Silverton Siege is one of those movies whose protagonist, in a sense, isn't clearly black or white; in the film, they can be seen as either freedom fighters or terrorists.
After a mission gone wrong, three operatives of an anti-apartheid organization find refuge in a bank in Silverton, a suburb of Pretoria, South Africa. Things turn into a hostage situation, but they don't want the bank's money; they take the opportunity to make a social statement.
Based on true events in 1980, Silverton Siege is excellently written and directed, with a commendable cast of unfamiliar actors, except for Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy, Darkman sequels), who I didn't know was South African in real life.
