Most people probably don't remember or know that Tom Hardy was in a Star Trek film. He was very young and unknown back then, but he was so good in Star Trek: Nemesis that he carried the movie as one of the most memorable villains in the whole Star Trek franchise. It's no wonder he wasn't as well-known back then as he is now.
Released in 2002, Star Trek: Nemesis was the last film featuring the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series, and it's among my top favorites.
Star Trek: Nemesis is about a clone of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Tom Hardy), whom the Romulans created in an attempt to replace the real Picard as a spy within the United Federation of Planets.
The movie is not the usual fare in the Star Trek universe. Star Trek: Nemesis one of the greatest science fiction and political drama stories ever told, and I particularly appreciate the depth of Tom Hardy's character, Shinzon, and the relationship between Picard and his clone counterpart.
Star Trek: Nemesis' brilliant screenplay was written by John Logan, who may not be a familiar name, but he's the screenwriter behind epic films like Gladiator and The Last Samurai, as well as the James Bond films Skyfall and Spectre. Brent Spiner (Data) and longtime Star Trek collaborator Rick Berman also contributed to the film's story.
Science fiction is rife with stories about clones, but Star Trek: Nemesis is among the most intriguing with its emphasis on humanity.
They don't make Star Trek movies like they used to. Apparently, Paramount has been focusing more on its TV series. Popular Star Trek movies, like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, have earned their places in cinema history. While Star Trek: Nemesis may not have been among the most successful films in the franchise, it’s one of the very best and is a must-see.
