Chronicle

I can't say I'm a fan of The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield, but credit has to go to the former for popularizing the "found footage" first-person perspective style of shooting.

Into The Storm, which I featured in MOVIE OF THE WEEK several years ago, took this form of cinematography and applied a very heartfelt human story.

Chronicle follows a similar premise and features young, then-unknown up-and-comers Michael B. Jordan and Dane DeHaan (Oppenheimer, The Amazing Spider-Man).

Chronicle chronicles three high school students who came into contact with an alien object that crashed into the ground, giving them superpowers. But this is not a superhero film. It's actually a tragedy that's told in a very clever and creative way. Chronicle did well at the box office, given its $15 million budget, but the 2012 film isn't as well-known. Nevertheless, Chronicle is on my must-see list of science fiction films.
