Over the holidays, some people on Threads were posting they were watching The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I even saw at least two say they were seeing it for the first time.
Peter Jackson's film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings has earned its place in cinema history, but it has overshadowed The Hobbit trilogy. This might be blasphemous, but I kind of like The Hobbit trilogy more than LOTR. The Hobbit films have been so underappreciated, yet Peter Jackson and his team had also been involved in their production.
You'll appreciate the saga more when you watch The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings films in succession, as the latter makes multiple references to the former. But if you really want to go hardcore, watch the Extended Editions of the trilogies.
