Havoc

Netflix has attracted some of the best directors and actors in the film industry, and they're not limited to those in Hollywood. Not to be confused with Gareth Edwards (the director of Rogue One and The Creator), Gareth Evans may not be known to most people, but martial arts action fans will recognize him for the highly acclaimed Indonesian films The Raid and its sequel.

Released exclusively on Netflix, Gareth Evans wrote and directed Havoc with Tom Hardy, Forest Whitaker, and Timothy Olyphant (The Mandalorian, Alien: Earth). Tom Hardy and Timothy Olyphant play dirty cops who become entangled with the Chinese Triad. The always scene-stealing Forest Whitaker plays a corrupt politician whose son allegedly killed the son of a crime boss, and she's out for blood. Like in The Raid films, Havoc features Gareth Evans' signature ultra-violent yet incredible action fight sequences.

Gareth Evans has come a long way from shooting The Raid with a prosumer Panasonic video camera using a Fig Rig. It goes to show you don't need the latest and greatest camera gear to make an exceptional film, and I look forward to seeing future movies from the Welsh filmmaker.
