Aquaman

After seeing Superman recently, I watched the DC Extended Universe films directed by Zack Snyder--Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition), and Zack Snyder's Justice League. Next thing I know, I found myself wanting to watch Aquaman. Then Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Then The Flash.

The story of Aquaman follows Justice League, and I've forgotten how good the film is. Unlike most other superheroes, Aquaman's story is an epic tale about the ruler of Atlantis, much like in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Jason Momoa and Amber Heard have excellent on-screen chemistry, and they're accompanied by a cast of superstars that includes Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Patrick Wilson, and Temuera Morrison. And Aquaman and its sequel were directed by an Asian.

Aquaman was so good, in my opinion, that I kind of had low expectations for the sequel. While Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom didn't surpass the first film, it was a surprisingly excellent sequel nevertheless. And on video, both Aquaman movies are reference-quality home theater demo material for picture and sound.

Unfortunately, there won't be any more DC Extended Universe films as DCEU succeeded by the new DC Universe (DCU). Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is technically the last film in the DCEU franchise, but The Flash was the closest to being a sequel to Justice League. While I have enjoyed Marvel Cinematic Universe, I prefer most of the films based on the DC superheroes. Aquaman, in particular, is very underrated and a must-see.
