Jobs

Attributing to Pablo Picasso, Steve Jobs famously said, "Good artists copy; great artists steal." It seems such was the case with the original Apple iPod. Kane Kramer, who was not affiliated with Apple, designed a portable digital music player back in 1979. When Apple was sued over the iPod design in the late 2000s, Kramer became a witness for Apple, acknowledging it was his invention that inspired the iPod.

I've owned a number of Apple products over the years, including G-series computers, iPods, and Final Cut Studio. I also had a brief stint working as a contractor at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California, many years ago.

But I'm not "loyal" to Apple. I've owned Samsung Android phones for years now. Still, Apple has an incredibly fascinating history, notably under Steve Jobs, and it's told very well in the biopic Jobs with Ashton Kutcher in the title role.

As with most historical dramas, Jobs takes some creative liberties. People familiar with the story of Apple Computer can appreciate the major players featured in the film, including Mike Markkula, John Sculley, and, of course, co-founder Steve Wozniak. Interestingly, there is one phone scene with Bill Gates, but the movie doesn't delve into the history and rivalry between him and Steve Jobs.

Jobs is a riveting look into the life of Steve Jobs and the company that has become a household name. But there's also betrayal and one of the greatest comeback stories ever.

There is no question that Steve Jobs was a visionary genius. But he could also be a hard-ass and difficult to work with. The portrayal of the latter may turn off Apple fans. However, I think Jobs tried to balance between the good and the ugly.

There's no denying the quality and appeal of Apple products, as well as how far the company has come and its impact on so many people's lives. Of all the biopics I've seen, Jobs is hands down one of my favorites, but that's mainly due to Steve Jobs being one of the most interesting individuals who ever lived. Love him or hate him, Steve Jobs is one person who can rightfully claim to have helped change the world.
