I lived in New Orleans for several years, so when I saw The Silence of the Lambs, I was admittedly less than impressed with Jodie Foster doing a Southern accent. On the other hand, I was blown away not only by Meg Ryan's memorable performance in Courage Under Fire but also by how authentically she pulled off a Southern accent.
Director Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai) reunites with Denzel Washington from Glory in Courage Under Fire, a war action movie about the Iraq War and a female helicopter pilot who is up for a Medal of Honor.
In my humble opinion, Saving Private Ryan remains the greatest war film of all time, and it would be difficult to top it, but Courage Under Fire certainly ranks among the best in the genre.
